Visitor guidelines

Regulations for visiting the NAWAREUM

Effective: March 1, 2026

Scope of application:

The museum rules apply to all areas of the NAWAREUM open to the public and the associated outdoor facilities. They are binding for all visitors and are accepted upon entry.

Museum rules:

NAWAREUM staff have the authority to enforce museum rules. Ticket and security staff are tasked with ensuring that museum rules are followed. Visitors must comply with their instructions.

Admission:

You can purchase a day pass or an annual pass at the ticket counter. The admission ticket grants you access to the permanent and special exhibitions. If you are eligible for a discount or free admission, please present proof of eligibility at the ticket counter.

The day pass entitles you to re-entry on the same day. The pass is non-transferable. Please keep your ticket until the end of your visit and present it to the staff upon request.

Coat check:

Please leave suitcases, large backpacks, other bulky items, umbrellas, and raincoats in the cloakroom or lockers before entering the exhibition rooms.

Use of the lockers is free of charge. A €1 coin is required as a deposit, which will be returned to you after use. We charge a fee of €20 for lost locker keys. For security reasons, all lockers must be emptied by the end of our opening hours. Lockers that have not been emptied will be opened and cleared by the museum staff.

We assume no liability for the loss of personal belongings, unless the loss results from an intentional or grossly negligent breach of duty by NAWAREUM employees or its agents.

Wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility aids, as well as strollers, may be brought inside or parked in the designated area in the lower floor (next to the stairs).

Rules of conduct in the NAWAREUM facilities:

We ask that you keep your group’s noise level to a minimum so that all guests can enjoy their visit and guided tours can proceed without disruption. Parents, guardians, and other accompanying adults are responsible for the behavior of minors as part of their supervision duties.

To ensure that other museum visitors can enjoy their visit without disturbance, we ask that you refrain from using your cell phones for (loud) calls in the exhibition rooms, except in urgent cases.

Smoking is prohibited inside of the NAWAREUM.

Bicycles, inline skates, skateboards, and similar items are not permitted inside the exhibition rooms, nor is eating.

Children under the age of 12 may use the elevators only when accompanied by an adult.

Photography and Videography:

Photography and filming are permitted. Photography and filming for commercial purposes are permitted only with prior approval from the museum administration or its representatives.

During events, photographs or videos may be taken in which you may be recognisable. These images may be used for the NAWAREUM’s public relations and by members of the press for news coverage.

Supervisory staff:

The ticket counter and security staff act on behalf of the museum management. Visitors must follow their instructions. Failure to comply with these instructions may result in being asked to leave the premises. NAWAREUM staff may deny entry to visitors who do not adhere to the museum rules or staff instructions.

Guided tours, school programs, and events:

Booked guided tours and school programs can be canceled free of charge no later than seven days before the scheduled date.

Please allow enough time before the tour begins to pay and use the coat check. If you arrive late, the tour will be shortened accordingly. The tour will be canceled at your expense if you are more than 30 minutes late. Please call us as soon as possible if you are delayed (Tel. 09421 300-510).

Teachers and chaperones are not relieved of their supervision duties during school group programs. The difference between the actual group size and the minimum group size of 9 people must be paid for school group programs with fewer than 9 participants. Admission for accompanying teachers and other chaperones is free with booked school group programs (for a maximum of four adults per kindergarten and elementary school group and three adults for grades 5 and up). For visits without a booked school group program, regular admission prices apply.

The purchase of tickets for events and public tours is non-refundable. Refunds are only available if the event is canceled by the organizer. However, tickets may be transferred to another person.

Groups:

If you plan to visit with a group of more than 15 people, please notify us in advance. During peak visitor hours, groups may be required to wait before entering. They will be admitted in the order of the date of their registration.

Tickets at the discounted group rate are available for groups of 15 or more paying guests. To benefit from the group rate, please pay in a single transaction at the ticket counter.
