The exhibition: Grasping nature and technology
The NAWAREUM invites you to roll up your sleeves and experience the exhibition first-hand. A colorful mix of art and games, nature and technology, knowledge and inspiration awaits you on three floors. The content is easy to understand, so that you can quench your thirst for knowledge and take lots of ideas home with you. Fun and adventure are the focus.
Exploring nine main topics – all in German and English language – visitors of all ages will be inspired to discover the exhibition. Experiment with different forms of energy at the giant marble run. Learn exciting facts about our food in "Restaurant Earth". Test a range of hydroelectric turbines and power wind turbines. Enter the "house in a house" and playfully discover ways to make everyday life climate-friendly. Or work in teams to supply an island with renewable energy at one of the interactive game tables. It certainly won't be boring with us!
Young adventurers can also feed their curiosity at the NAWAREUM. For children of elementary school age, there is specific content throughout the exhibition to discover on their own. The museum garden: Enjoy a little piece of nature
In our beautifully landscaped garden, the term "renewable resources" comes to life. Step inside, stroll through the museum garden and marvel at the colorful variety of different plants that you may have already encountered in the exhibition.
After all, there is a lot to discover outside the doors of the NAWAREUM as well. Different types of grain, various oil plants, aromatic spices, and medicinal plants. Insect-friendly bloomers that are used to generate energy. Plants whose fibers are used to produce fabrics. Shrubs in which birds and other animals find food and shelter. A green oasis that invites you to stay a while and take a closer look.
The garden is open to the public and you are welcome to explore it independently of a visit to our permanent exhibition. Thanks to accessible paths, you can easily get around with strollers and wheelchairs.
The building: Discover sustainable construction
Sustainability was the focus not only in the design of the exhibition and garden, but also in the construction of the NAWAREUM. The structure largely consists of the renewable raw material wood. In addition, the most environmentally friendly and sustainable solution was also the benchmark for choosing the other building materials.
The building was constructed according to the passive house standard and has solar thermal, photovoltaic and geothermal energy systems. Energy requirements are met entirely from renewable sources – the TFZ's existing biomass heating system also supplies heat when needed. So the renewable energies you learn about in the exhibition literally power the NAWAREUM.
The museum building impresses both inside and out. The eye-catching facade is supported by natural tree trunks from the region. You can also find inspiration for your own building project by learning about the NAWAREUM’s underlying features. After all, our largest exhibit is the building itself.
