Accessibility

The NAWAREUM is a place for everyone. We have therefore taken various measures to make it as accessible as possible.

Blind and visually impaired people

  • Guided tours: We offer special guided tours for blind and visually impaired people. These tours feature many tactile objects. So far, we offer them in German only. To learn more, click here.
  • Permanent exhibition: Many of our hands-on exhibits can also be used by people with visual impairments. Unfortunately, the permanent exhibition does not yet include tactile paving or information in Braille. We therefore recommend visiting with a sighted person. Those accompanying people with disabilities are admitted free of charge.
  • Disabled parking: There are designated parking spaces for people with disabilities located directly next to the NAWAREUM. They can be reached via Paul-Münch-Straße.
  • Tactile paving: There is a tactile paving system in the outdoor area of the museum. It leads from the parking lot to the main entrance and from there to the cash desk, elevator, and stairs.
  • Handrail indicators: Handrail plaques are located on the stair railings. They name the respective floor in raised letters and German Braille.
  • Elevator: The elevator will take you to all exhibition levels. It has buttons with raised letters as well as an audible floor announcement. The rooftop lookout is accessible only by stairs. However, it does not contain any exhibits. It merely offers a view of the museum's solar thermal and photovoltaic systems.

People with wheelchairs and walkers

  • Disabled parking: There are designated parking spaces for people with disabilities located directly next to the NAWAREUM. They can be reached via Paul-Münch-Straße.
  • Museum garden: All paths in the museum garden are paved, level and wide enough for wheelchairs.
  • Door opener: The doors at the main entrance can be opened by pushbutton.
  • Restroom: There is a wheelchair accessible restroom in the basement. It can be reached by elevator from all floors.
  • Elevator: The elevator will take you to all exhibition levels. The rooftop lookout is accessible only by stairs. However, it does not contain any exhibits. It merely offers a view of the museum's solar thermal and photovoltaic systems.
  • Permanent exhibition: The tour of the permanent exhibition and most of the hands-on exhibits are wheelchair accessible. However, some detours are necessary to reach the next floor by elevator.
  • Seating: There are benches in every other exhibition room.

Deaf people and people with hearing impairments

  • Guided tours: Are you planning a group visit with deaf people and wish to book a guided tour? You are welcome to bring a sign language interpreter. Just mention it when booking the tour.
  • Hearing loop: There is an inductive hearing loop in the event room and in the temporary exhibition room.
  • Video: The permanent exhibition contains several videos with sound and spoken word. All of them are available with German Sign Language (DGS) interpretation. Most videos also feature English subtitles on demand.
  • Audio: The permanent exhibition contains some audio stations. Unfortunately, there is no alternative offering for deaf people yet.
